Informal Maid of Honor Speech

Sometimes a informal or "conversational" maid of honor speech can go down well. As long as you stay focused on the couple and take care not to offend then it's ok to deliver a relaxed speech. This maid of honor speech has a tone more similar to a story told at a party than to a typical wedding speech but in certain situations, that can work just great!

Good evening everyone! That’s not too formal of an introduction is it? “Good evening?” I don’t want this to be too formal of an occasion. I mean it’s important, yeah, but I just don’t think it’s very romantic. Today I want to speak from the heart, because today my best friend is finally getting married. I remember so vividly a moment when both of us were acting out a marriage scene with our Barbies. Though I’m sure what happened at Barbie and Ken’s honeymoon won’t be as accurate…but that’s mostly because we don’t think boys have cooties anymore.

When Jen told me to speak at her wedding I said “Easy!” I can do that. And I can, speaking isn’t hard at all…but she didn’t say anything about writing…I don’t do THAT every day…in fact I usually just copied off of Jen on all my essays through college! I knew it was important to her. And she means the world to me…So I buckled down and worked to think of all the greatest things that I could put in my speech…I couldn’t think of anything. And after a 3 hour crying session and 4 boxes of chocolates I got back to work! I finally came up with this speech! I even remember writing this line! And This one, and this one, and this one…you get the idea…

If you’re a member of Jen’s non-immediate family you’re probably wondering who this crazy women babbling into the microphone is! Well Jen chose me to be her Maid of Honor because I am her BEST friend! Here that Groom? Me. Her BEST friend! You better watch yourself mister! Jen and I grew up together. We went to high school together and were best friends! Until she sat next to that other girl at lunch and I was all like “WTF Jen I thought WE were best friends what are you doing next to that uggo?” And she was all like “Pfff whatever you don’t own me!” And then we didn’t talk for a week…But luckily, like most high school girl’s do, we forgot the whole situation ever happened and became best friends again! And that brings us to today.

When I was writing this speech…the gossip in me emerged…I thought to myself, I have all the freedom in the world to tell the juiciest, raunchiest, most embarrassing stories I could think of! Stories that would probably make Groom rethink marrying Jen, and all of Jen’s family members to have a heart attack! But thank god for Jen’s sake none of those stories actually exist, otherwise I would JUMP on the chance of putting them in my speech!

All of the stories Jen and I share are beautiful, and make up some of the happiest moments of my life. All the times we shared made us who we are today, and damn! The people we are today are phenomenal am I right? Unfortunately, I haven’t know Groom for as many years as I have known Jen, so I don’t share as many stories with him, but I feel like I know enough to know that he is perfect for my best friend. They are both gorgeous, intelligent, caring, and friendly people. They will no doubt make each other happy, just like Jen has filled my life with happiness all these years.

But hey! Just because I’m cool with you too getting married doesn’t mean I’m cool with being kicked out of your life completely! You better watch your back Groom. You’re no replacement for me! I wish the two of you a glorious marriage and everlasting happiness, with me included! You may kiss the Jen! Oh…that’s not my line? I’ll just end with “Congratulations!”
